The cancellation of the World RX of Portugal included the first round of the FIA European Super1600 Rallycross Championship 2020. FIA, IMG and the organizer of the event at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya worked out a plan to run two double-headers side-by-side on one weekend.
It was also announced that the rounds will carry different names:
- Logitech G World RX of Catalunya-Barcelona
- Logitech G World RX of Pirineus-Barcelona 2030
Like the World RX drivers, Super1600 drivers will compete in 3 qualification races, semi-finals and final on each day of the weekend. This means extra pressure for the drivers and teams. But this will also put a lot of pressure on the organizer to fullfil the time plan and the TV duties on Sunday.
This is especially true, as the entry list for Super1600 contains 22 drivers. Despides travel warnings from several countries to Spain, this is the largest number of entries in any round (Word RX or Euro RX) this year and shows the strength of the class.
We are waiting for an updated time schedule. As soon as we received it, we will publish it on rallycross.com. New for this year and great news for fans of Super1600 is the fact that all qualification races and the semi-finals will be transmitted live on YouTube and Facebook. The TV broadcast will include the Super1600 final.
