Today Rallycross Promoter has announced an updated schedule of this year’s World and European Rallycross Championship events. The revised dates were already approved during the latest meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
The good news for the fans is that the first event in Hungary has been moved forward from May 20/21 to April 29/30. What is considered as a good news for the fans, might be bad news for the teams, because now they have less time for preparation and testing before it all gets started.
And the World RX of Portugal events has been moved to June, now taking the honours of being the opening event of the 2023 World Rallycross Championship. Using the gap, that the Portuguese event left, World RX of Germany now takes place already in August (19–20).
According to Rallycross Promoter: “The changes to the schedule have been necessitated by the unstable nature of the global logistics market and the extended shipping times required to accommodate the events outside of Europe.”
So the good news from the beginning of the season turns into a bad news, because after the German round, we have to wait for 7 weeks to see the next FIA Rallycross event as at that time all European Rallycross championships will be decided and champions crowned.
The FIA Rallycross World Championship will still consist of 8 events and 10 rounds. Here is an overview of all championship with the new dates:
