2016 FIA World Rallycross Champion Mattias Ekström (43) is set to race this weekend (September 18-19) in the Latvian capital of Riga as was announced today (September 13). The Swede has joined René Münnich’s ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport for the double-header event – rounds 4 and 5 of the 2O21 FIA World Rallycross Championship – taking place at Biķernieki Sport Complex.
Ekström will be at the wheel of a second ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport SEAT Ibiza and as a former double DTM champion he will team up with Germany’s Timo Scheider, a former double DTM champion as well.
“I’m very excited to go to Riga with ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport for several reasons,” Ekström explained.
“Firstly, I think the car has been performing really well lately and René [Münnich] proved that with a Euro RX1 win in France.
“Secondly, I really like the Riga track, and the fact that it will be a double-header weekend means there will be a lot of track time.
“And most importantly, driving a World RX Supercar is the best preparation possible for the racing activities that I do. With 600 horsepower and nearly 1000Nm, these are the fastest cars to drive and to keep myself race-ready for the upcoming Extreme E and Pure ETCR events.
“I will do everything I can in Riga to get a trophy for ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport, because they have been fighting for a long time and really deserve it.
“We have two chances this weekend to achieve this goal.”
Racing at Biķernieki Sport Complex for World RX is set to begin at 12:00 local time (11:00 CET) on Saturday (September 18) with Qualifying 1 (Q1).
